Path of Success: Indian way

Few hours back, I was in a local train compartment, on my way back home. I was to cover a journey of nearly three and half hours, and as usual I got engaged with my smartphone, the best way out to kill time and boredom, checking mails and listening to music, playing games….bla bla bla… Co-passengers, especially those who were travelling in groups, I presume they might be regular commuters, were busy too, with lots of discussions, covering almost each and every available topics under the sun ( that’s also a way to kill time, man). Let me remind you, my beloved readers, some were delivering lectures (tax free with no obligations), some were the good listeners (best way to not loose your energy) and the rest was engaged in panel discussions ( as they were in front of the camera and telecast is live ). Entered a new guest, trust me the perfume drew the first attraction towards them ( plural terms, buddy, he was accompanied by his wife ). Everything was going normal, till, the panel...

Passions and Prejudices

It happened all of a sudden, if my memory doesn’t betray, in the mid of the year 1992, and honestly the incident, which I am to pen down, had far reaching consequences, and led me being human, changing my views and feelings towards life. As a struggling young man, desperately in search of a high paid stable job, I used to go miles, wherever there seems a small ray of light: opportunity. This deliberate act landed me in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya (India), also known as “Scotland of India”, to attend the final selection as Manager (Customer Relation) in “Polo Towers”, the reputed star category hotel in the heart of this picturesque hill station. What was the outcome is not the topic here, so let’s jump cut this episode. Police Bazaar, in Shillong, is a heaven for any and every idler worth his salt and as usual, it was my favourite place to hang out too. I was quite distracted by the variety of this place in contrast to memories of my own city and I often used to roam...

Haven’t we Met?

I know you well . It’s true that I always had a little trouble with your name, but I do know your name, just I don’t know at this moment .  We’re  at a big party and have kissed hello. We’ve had a delightful conversation about how we are the last two people on the face of the earth who don’t kiss on both cheeks.    You are so charming. You had been to my house for dinner and I read your last book.  If only I could have remember your name. It’s inexcusable that I don’t. It’s something like Roger. Only it’s not. Rodrigo? That’s not in either. Your last name: three syllables, starts with a c. Starts with a g? I am losing my mind. But a miracle occurs:   The host is about to toast the guest of honour. Thank God. I can escape to the bar. I will spent the rest of the night scrolling through the alphabets in an attempt to come up with your name…  Have we met?  I think we’ve met, but I can’t be sure. We’re introduced, but I d...

Being Human

A man was driving down the road and his car breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, “My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?” The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. A sound unlike anything he’s ever heard before. The Sirens that nearly seduced Odysseus into crashing his ship comes to his mind. He doesn’t sleep that night. He tosse s and turns trying to figure out what could possibly be making such a seductive sound.  The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they said, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.” Distraught, the man is forced to leave. Years later, after never being able to forget that sound, the man goes back to the monastery and pleads for the answer again. The monks replied  “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.” The man says  “If the only way I can find out what is making that beautif...

Victoria Falls: Smoke that Thunders

Victoria Falls: Smoke that Thunders                                              Victoria Falls Victoria Falls is a town in the western portion of Zimbabwe, across the border from Livingstone, Zambia, and near Botswana. The town lies immediately next to the falls, and they are the major attraction, but this popular tourist destination offers both adventure seekers and sightseers plenty of opportunities for a longer stay. No doubt about it,  Victoria Falls,   twice as tall as  Niagara Falls,  and several times longer,   also known as  Mosi-oa-Tunya  (meaning “The Smoke That Thunders”) is one of the most amazing sights in the world. The Falls have the largest sheet of water for any fall in the world, although not the highest, widest or greatest volume of water, is a sight not to be missed. It to...

GUNS ARE IN AMERICA'S DNA

Case Study 1: United Kingdom Hungerford Massacre 1987: 16 people died by a lone gunman. Result: semi automatic and pump-action weapons banned. Registration mandatory for owning shotguns. And the bucks doesn't  stops here: Dunblane, Scotland 1996: One unspeakable coward bastard (sorry for my language) entered the gymnasium of a primary school (yea friends primary school) and  opened fire from his handgun resulting to the death of 15 children aged between five and six along with their teacher. Outcome: UK lawmakers, resulting in some of the toughest anti-gun legislation in the world, passed a ban on the private ownership of all handguns in mainland Britain. Though it took 18 months! Case Study 2: Australia Port Arthur massacre : After the tragic incident, former Australian President John Howard said, " We have an opportunity in this country not to go down the American path." And the opportunity was taken: weapons that can kill many people quickly _ semi auto...

Travel; A journey of Life & Feelings

“My spirit travels with the wind, and it is there we will find each other in the dark.” I’ve felt the wind and how whispers carry and heard the trees reaching higher to catch some of those words. Even though this world is often dark and no other souls are in sight, I can still feel you there, like you’re right behind me.  I’ve seen the rainbows after the storms and felt their pain, as if for once they’d like to be granted a wish. This world isn’t black and white, but so many people perceive it that way. I’ve seen beyond the gray and into a place where even shadows have some light to dance with.  And if I turn around, I might catch a glimpse of you there. But the space where I feel you is empty. It’s always empty. But if I look beyond what my eyes can see, I will see you in between life and dreams. And if we’re both lost, all we need to do is find the wind. She always knows how to bring us home. And it is there we will find each other in the dark. Inspire...
